Playing FIFA10 with friend who always kicks my ass today, after not having played it at all for ages.
He usually wins 6 or 7 to nothing.

Win one match 4-3 in extra time.
Draw another 2-2 after extra time.
Win the final 3-1.

I AM THE TOMBSTONE

Ooh, that reminds me.

Now, I don't like sports, like, at all. But, my friend and I were playing some football game (American football) and I was just dicking around, because it held no interest to me.

Well, I made the most incredible play ever.

I got the ball, and ran all the way to his endzone, but did not go into it. Instead, I turned around and ran all the way to mine, dodging every single one of his players, before turning around AGAIN, and running back to his endzone for the touchdown.

I think I got like two points for that, or something.

It was awesome.

He quit.

So after playing some more of UmJammer Lammy I thought I'd write a mini-review of it.

UmJammer Lammy is a bizarre game on many levels and an eminently sensible one on others. It takes a simple rhythm game idea and wraps it in a colourful blanket of zany characters, absurd dilemmas and questionable song lyrics. It's a memorable and unique experience, but it's not a perfect one. In spite of that, it does have some redeeming qualities that make it worth a look.

The game focuses on Lammy, an insecure teenage...something who plays guitar for rock band MilkCan. Waking up late one morning, she has fifteen minutes to get to a big concert, but must face a series of increasingly strange challenges, from putting out a fire, to flying a plane, to literally playing for an audience in Hell, to do so.

The practical upshot of this is that Lammy contorts each experience into a test of her musical prowess. Each stage has a companion reeling off a list of button commands with you matching these commands. If you play well, you'll be fine, but if you miss too many notes or don't get the timing right, things will go from bad to worse and you'll have to try again.

And you will try again, as the timing of each button press is finicky and demanding. It often helps to play the note a split second before to nail it, but the way the game measures your prowess seems illogical as you can often fail a segment without it being clear why. Similarly, it's occassionally possible to mangle a segment and still pass. Unlike games like Vib-Ribbon or Rock Band where the criteria for hitting or missing a note is clear, UmJammer Lammy feels imprecise and enjoyment and accessibility of the game is diminished. It's not impossible to finish a song but it feels harder than it really ought to.

Still, there's a decent amount of content to be getting on with. There are solo, cooperative and competitive modes for almost every song, (seven in total) and even Parappa the Rapper makes an appearance in half of them. Since this title acts as something of a spinoff to the Parappa universe it's a nice touch and brings the focus back round to rapping instead of guitar playing, which you may like or not. Personally I enjoyed Lammy's modes a lot more, but that might have been down to the fairly flat musical style and lyrics that accompany Parappa's stages.

The music itself has to be heard to be believed, covering a multitude of styles and tempos. It doesn't strike me as incredibly thoughtful or high quality music, but it's lively, bouncy and suits the madcap, colourful world well. Some will like the music: others will hate it, and either response is justified.

Would I recommend UmJammer Lammy as a quality game? Perhaps not. There's little logic to anything that happens, the story is nonsensical and the actual gameplay is a little too tempermental to be truly enjoyable. Yet as an experimental experience, a chance to try something off the beaten track, it's strangely compelling. Rocking out while extinguishing fires to the bass singing of the firefighter dog next to me is something that will stay with me longer than playing a song on Rock Band, even if the latter is technically superior. As a multiplayer experience it might be fun enough to get past its flaws, and as a single-player one it's not impossible to beat, just a little harder than usual.
UmJammer Lammy doesn't suffer from insanity. It enjoys every minute of it, and if you're looking for a new rhythm game, and have an open mind, UmJammer Lammy definitely warrants your attention.

UmJammer Lammy is available on the PlayStation Store as a PS1 Classic.

I recently bought the Mass Effect Trilogy. I had expected, due to many reviews, to be interested in the story and enjoy the gameplay. But I didn't know how much. And all the lore available. There are planets out there, that, as far as I can tell, have no other purpose but for me to examine. And that's glorious.
Seriously, this is excellent.

mass effect 1 was excellent, it was your story that you controlled and you told the universe where to go. mass effect 2 was good but imo the first was better. and i havent played 3 yet but all i hear about it is nerds yelling about the endings.

Bought a PS Move off a friend for $50 bucks for a present for the son of a co-worker who's getting a PS3 this Christmas...also picked up a used copy of Medieval Moves: Deadmund's Quest so he'll have something to play. Tested it this morning...pretty fun. []

This site gives you a complete breakdown of your Steam profile. I linked mine as an example. It does total time played, time per game, how many games you have but never played, the value of your games, and some other fun stuff.

My profile is worth $1000 dollars apparently. I payed something like $250 total.

MS3 ending is better than the Ass Creed 3 one.

XCOM is awesome. I don't know if you're getting it for PC, or console, but I don't think it matters. I have it for PC, and it would work just as well on a console.

Yeah, 2 kinda pops up and changes a fair few things dramatically without telling you. Oh well, I'm getting the hang of it. There are nice improvements though. I don't have to spend 500 talent points just so I can open all the lockers and doors I find.

I got Journey and The Unfinished Swan in the PSN 12 Days of Christmas promotion. I'm saving them for Christmas though.
