Was it as bad as the trailers make it out to be?

I actually enjoyed it; it was gory, but "funny" gory, if that makes sense. It's never really terrifying (at least not to me), and the entire atmosphere is almost parodic of horror movies. I recommend it. []

Somehow...yes. Just watch it; you'll see. I'm not claiming it's a cinematic masterpiece or the best movie I've seen all year (since I saw The Avengers this year), but it's at least worth a watch. []

The school is causing me grief regarding money otherwise I would - I think Sinister looks pretty neat. Have you seen trailers for that?

Apparently Dredd is really good.
Has anyone seen it? I'm going to go see it.
I'm so excited to see it.

There is going to be so much butthurt anguish when this movie comes out.
I can feel it in the water. I can feel it in the earth. I can smell it in the air.

"This movie is not serious enough"
"This movie is too serious"
"Why was Kili intentionally made so handsome"
"Why is there a love story in this movie"
"Peter Jackson has sold out"
"This is a disgrace to the novel"
"Lord of the rings is so much better"
"This is a children's movie"
"The characters are such stereotypes"
"The costumes are so stupid"
"The dwarves should not have been portrayed as they were"

If I see any of this shit in this thread, after it comes out, I am putting an axe in my computer.

This is going to sound really nitpicky, but whoever came up with the name deserves to die a horrible, fire ant-filled death.

I would have called it, " There and Back Again: The Bilbo Baggins Story."

Some of them do look too cartoon-y for dwarves compared to Gimli in LOTR. Also @Zebra, is it the subtitle you have a problem with? I think that's a line from the book if I remember correctly.

I'm still wondering how they're going to get three whole movies out of such a small book in the first place.

Dat nose.
I expect they've padded the script with lots of jokes and maybe some flashbacks. I'm sure I'll love the movie, even if it doesn't comply with my love of the book. I'm the same way with LOTR trilogy. Those movies are so freaking fantastic, but let's face it, they don't have Tom Bombadil.

It's an industrial production versus a government program. Also, compare the direct revenue of each.

I am watching the Alien anthology. It has been so long since I last saw these movies. They are truly terrifying.

Halo might as well be called Aliens: The Game; it seems so obvious that Halo was inspired by it.

Creepiest film monster, GO!

My vote goes for the Thing, from the Thing.

Not only because of it's horrific appearance and ability to adapt itself in seconds, but also because it can blend in as anyone. It can be anyone, right now.

And you would never know until too late.

Appearance: 10/10. Freaky as fuck.

Ability to cause destruction on a mass scale: 9/10. While it can't physically knock down a building, and it can be killed more or less easily with fire,if it impersonates someone important, it could cause massive damage.

Durability: 5/10. It's only real defence is hiding as someone else, but it does that extremely well. I think it isn't harmed by bullets, either, but I could be wrong.

Excellent post. I haven't seen the original or the remake but I've played that old PS game so I know the premise. Scary crazy as fuck, is definitely in my top 4, even without having seen the movie. Definitely need to buy that movie and watch it.

I don't know if I could choose between the top 4, they all have their merits and shortcomings.
In no particular order:
* The Thing
* Aliens (esp. in AvP and Aliens)
Spoiler:
Appearance: 9/10 - traditional alien + facehugger is right on, chestburster + queens + any hybrids are always so lopsided and unbalanced. Giger does a commendable job on paper but it just doesn't do well with so much movement.
Power: 8/10 - breeds quickly, grows quickly, acid blood eats through anything, intelligent, crazy as fuck, fast, strong, etc.
Durability: 7/10 - acid blood, ACID. BLOOD.
* Freddy Krueger (NoES reboot was disastrous)
Spoiler:
Appearance: 5/10 - apart from the face and the hands he's really just an average guy. Body is so important; I feel like they ignore it in every movie.
Power: 3/10 - kills some people and can only do it when they're asleep.
Durability: 10/10 - absolutely invincible
* Humans (esp. Se7en, Saw I-IV, Michael Bay for ruining everything)
Spoiler:
Appearance: ~4/10 - ranges wildly. Has such great potential but no-one ever seems to do anything with it.
Power: ~3/10 - can't do shit except cut people up
Durability: ~2/10 - fragile
If I had to give a vote for any particular one it would be aliens, but only because I watched those most recently. Somewhere below all that, though, would be: predators (only in Predator), Imhotep (only in The Mummy), triffids, and terminators (only Terminator I + II). I feel like I'm forgetting a couple great ones.

Godzilla and Gamera movies would have to be some of my favourite monster movies, though they aren't traditionally creepy.

i actually considered the Xenomorphs, but I think they're more awesome than creepy, myself. Although, in real life, it would rank in the top three list of monsters I would least like to see in real life.mostly because, even with all our technology, they would be a BITCH to get rid of.

(Number one is zombies, by the way.)

I used to be so fukken keeeeen on zombies back in high school; what type of zombies? Just zombies in general?
It's been so long since I saw anything aside from Zombie Strippers or the more recent DawnOTDead but I think 28 Days Later zombies would be up near the top of my list, with the Rage virus or whatever it was called. Maybe also the remake DOTD zombies because whatever was causing those zombies had a much longer incubation time than Rage.

It's been so long, gosh; I need to go to VideoEzy some time and splurge.

I didn't think the Thing was very scary, it was just kind of grotesque. Really grotesque. It kept making me try to shoot it(Dead Space reflex).
Cthulu is pretty scary, but I don't know that he's been in any movies(unless he was behind 2012? I dunno I didn't watch it).
I like serial killer movies the best. You guys see Copycat? Creepy as fuck.

While fast zombies would probably be a bigger problem in real life, slow zombies have always creeped me out more.

I don't know why.

Maybe it's because, with fast zombies, when they're running at me, I wouldn't have time to think. I would just kill and kill and move on. It's just like fighting angry people, really.

But with slow zombies, there's obviously something different. While they're slowly shuffling towards you, moaning with the desire to consume your flesh, you're sitting there, trying to aim directly at their head to kill the brain, and all you can do is think, "Wow, this used to be a person. This thing was my friend, or neighbor, or family. And now it's just..... Not."

Slow zombies are creepy because they keep comin' at the same pace, and eventually you can't take out enough and they close in on you and engulf you.
