It kinda is like a honeymoon, but they're gonna stay at home, probably doing things best reserved for the adult thread.

Not to make fun of this, but that would had made my day if I had made a theif be absolutly terrified after trying to steal something of mine.

TTBM: Today was the funeral for my grandmother. Despite how solemn it was, it was still nice to see so many family and friends come to support each other, including a brief but surprising visit from two people from the Acadamy.

But what really bugged me about today was the service given by the preacher.

First of all, it was only twenty minutes long. I certainly wouldn't have liked something that dragged on and on, but still, considering we're talking about a 70 year old woman, there's plenty of things that you could go into detail about.

Another problem was the fact that there was no time for any of us to share our own stories or speeches about her. It was all just the guy up on the podium talking, and no one else, not even my dad, aunt, or great-aunts, who were immediate family. I guess this is a bit of a relief, since it means that my brother was not arbitrarily not allowed to talk at grandma's funeral solely because of his beliefs, but it's still very irksome.

But what pissed off not only me, but the rest of my family, my brother in particular, was that this guy giving the service barely even talked about my grandmother. He instead went on about how my grandmother "studied the scriptures of the Jehova's Witnesses*" and from there, started talking about various things taken from the Bible and only loosely relating them to my grandmother.

This service wasn't about what my grandmother learned from studying whatever the Jehova's Witnesses had to teach her. This service was about her life, and how she went through 7 decades of joy, struggles, tragedies, and other things that we specifically came to reflect upon in honor of her. And if you're not going to take any time to talk about that, then get the fuck away from that podium and give us some time to do so.

Please do not take this post as an insult towards all Jehova's Witnesses. I'm just miffed at this particular example of them.

Yeah I know - Steve wants to spend the weekend just the two of us, but I am going to try to convince him to let me spend some time with you and Sam Sunday, maybe go to the movies or whatnot due to the fact you will only be here until Monday (which he didn't know and I didn't know until you told me prior)

When I went to my aunt's funeral somebody's mobile phone went off twice and the CD player broke. Still, we got to share stories and memories of her so I guess it turned out better than yours.

TTBM: This dude I know from Kyukido. he goes to a seperate Acadamy, and I don't know him that well, but we're Facebook friends and I thought he was pretty chill. Then it turned out that he's a pretty straw atheist, posting stuff that was all but actually insulting to Christians, but getting into detail on that would probably be best for the religion thread.
What he just did that bugged me was he posted about the massacre in Aurora Colorado. (If you haven't heard, a guy walked into a theatre at a midnight showing of The Dark Knight Rises and opened fire, killing 12 people and injuring dozens more.)
Basically, he said in his status that it was "sickening" that so many people were posting about the massacre when in Africa, thousands of people die every day from hunger.

Because we have no right to be sad about anything so long as something worse is happening in the world, and we should be ashamed of ourselves for not thinking about that rather than the stuff that is comparibley less terrible but still horrifically tragic.

I posted something incredibly similar about droughts or floods or some crap on my own Facebook back when I used to pretend to care about anything beyond myself. I saw a couple statuses along the same lines pop up, from other people, every time something bad happened. I thought the point of them generally isn't that you shouldn't care about whatever current disaster is happening; it's either that you should feel bad for not caring about all the bad things all the time or that posting on Facebook (ARMCHAIR ACTIVISM; BUZZWORDS AMIRITE?!? UPVOTES TO THE BOTTOM OF MY STATUS vvvvvv) is useless and active efforts to stop it are good.

Playing the whole "I care about sad things more than you common people" angle gets likes from that cool, arrogant, superior teenage crowd, that everyone wants to be in, and people like likes on their statuses. People will say "(x)-sama, I love your opinions you are so right; society should fix these problems" and usually follow it up with "I hate society, humans are disgusting" but they don't actually care, they just like to pretend they do so they can fit in and feel better about themselves. Guarantee he hasn't actually formed any mature political or philosophical opinions of his own and he's just regurgitating what the cool crowd is doing.

Wouldn't hold it against him; it's Facebook, after all.

I know, but this is the same guy who was wearing sunglasses at a banquet a couple years back, and then, when I half-jokingly asked if I could try them on, he shot me a pretty smarmy denial. When we asked why he was so protective of him, he explained that they cost some exorbitant amount of money. When we furhter questioned him as to why he would spen so much on a pair of sunglasses (That didn't even have the magical ability to make the wearer a demigod in a Judo outfit) he said, almost pridefully, "Because I like to spend money."

What I'm trying to say is that I know that he's kind of like this both on and off of Facebook.

At around midnight (MT) on July 20th, 2012, a masked gunman opened fire during the premier screening of the 2012 superhero film The Dark Knight Rises in a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado. According to multiple witness accounts on the scene, the shooter used gas or smoke-emitting canisters to distract the audience before opening fire with a semi-automatic rifle, a shotgun and a handgun. The attack killed 12 moviegoers and injured 59 people and the gunman was immediately apprehended after the police arrived on the scene. The shooter was later identified as a 24 year old James Holmes.
